"Arizona astounded me. In the morning, you can be in Phoenix enjoying 88 degree weather, and later the same day be standing at the Grand Canyon staring into the abyss wishing you had brought a warmer coat and a pair of mittens with you.
Every hour of the journey, the landscape revealed more of itself to me … from the jewel-toned desert with its tumbleweeds and almost animated Saguaro Cactus, to the astounding red rock formations of Sedona, through the magical Oak Creek Canyon and Coconino National Forest with its tall ponderosa pines dusted in new fallen snow … to the grand dame of them all - the Grand Canyon, with the painted desert just beyond. No matter where you are in Arizona, the landscape simply takes your breath away. Light is everything to a photographer … and the light in Arizona is gorgeous, but what also struck me were the colours of the sand, the buttes, the vegetation, the walls of the canyons, the blue endless sky. Arizona is eye candy for the spirit. Back in my studio, I sometimes like to take the good bones of an image and push some digital elements like the colour, contrast and saturation. The resulting images can challenge one's imagination and bring details to life you might not have otherwise noticed." |
