Artist Statement

ANDARA Gallery is pleased to present “voICE”, the first exhibition and sale by Canadian Fine Art Photographer and Digital Artist, Tara Wilkinson, from her 1,322 KM journey circumnavigating ICELAND's Ring Road. A magnificent natural wonder, the island nation is truly home to “Fire and Ice” with an abundance of ever changing dramatic landscapes that take one’s breath away.
 
The first of many planned exhibitions, “voICE” features images that capture the hidden details and the raw and exquisite beauty of  melting icebergs from Europe's largest ice cap, the Vatnajökull Glacier. Tara’s soulful images will take you up close to show you the hidden details within the ice and fill your senses.

Tara will also be unveiling "ICE CUBES" – and exhibit and sale of photographs of ice printed onto thick acrylic blocks using the most advanced print technology for superior image quality, intense clarity and vibrant colours. Illuminated when backlit, each unique “Ice Cube” is a true work of art.
 
Photographs of Iceland's diverse and spectacular landscapes - from moss and lava fields, deserts scorched by belching steam from deep within the earth, lush valleys, snow covered mountain tops and quiet harbour inlets - will also be part of the exhibition.

​The voICE of Mother Nature is everywhere in Iceland ... carried on the wind and thrashing ocean waves, heard in the stillness of night, via whispers pouring over the landscape from rambling streams and cascading waterfalls, and being released with each crack in the ice.

“As we crested a hill and first saw the blue icebergs floating in the Jokulsarlon lagoon (Iceland’s deepest lake), my eyes flooded with tears. ​

I had never seen anything so astoundingly beautiful in nature in my life. We were soon bundled up in massive flotation suits and took a zodiac out to see the icebergs and the colossal glacier wall they broke away from up close. As I looked across the massive lake filled with icebergs that didn't exist less than 100 years ago ... and I looked way up the massive ridge of the glacier looming above us like a skyscraper, I realized we shouldn't be seeing this. We are all in an urgent race against time.
